Best Restaurants in Minsk

Location: 3 min read

When you only have a few days, you want to make sure you get the best meals in. Here is a quick guide to some restaurants in Minsk that you must check out!

I’m alive. When I’m eating that’s all I think about. If I’m on the march, I just concentrate on marching. If I have to fight, it will be just as good a day as any to die. – Paulo Cohelo

Belarusian cuisine is full of potatoes, vegetables, meat and dairy products. They are very hearty, fatty and well salted. During our 48 hours in Minsk, we tried to cram in a couple different restaurants. Another thing my friend and I did was visit the local grocery stores to check out the local breads, cereals and other various snacks to shove in our pockets for the day. Belerusian dishes to try:

  • Pickled vegetables
  • Kletskis (similar to pirogies)
  • Machsnka (thick stew served with yeast pancakes on the side to dip!)
  • Borchst (classic Slavic soup made from beets, sometimes served cold)

Breakfast

Svobody 4

Located in the center of the old town, this place was so Instagramable inside, I couldn’t help myself but take tons of photos. Also, I was dying for an eggs benedict, bacon and a rich, black coffee.

Since I was staying at the Beijing Hotel, I decided to take a Yandex.taxi, which cost me about $3 and 7 minutes. However, if you are staying in the center of town, this is most likely right around the corner from you! This is fairly priced as well! I loved sitting outside watching the old, orthodox church bells ring and the city slowly wake up to a sunny, Sunday morning! My price for my breakfast was about $10!

This was actually a wine bar by night, and I could tell that it got popping! So if you’re looking for somewhere to visit twice, Svobody 4 is probably right up your alley. Breakfast on Mon-Sun: 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Simple

This little breakfast nook is exactly how it sounds: simple food. But BIG flavor! This is more of a Belarusian flavor place that focuses on light, airly dishes with authentic taste. Their pancakes are amazing. Breakfast on Mon-Fr: 8 a.m.-12 a.m. / Sat-Sun: 8 a.m.-11 a.m. Check out their Instagram!

Lunch/Dinner

Dedova Korchma Cafe

Most lunch places can also double as dinner as well. The interior is wild, and the salads and open-faced sandwiches are amazing. Also, from Wednesday-Sunday they have live music. Check out their TripAdvisor reviews.

Enzo

You’re going to freak with delight when you see the kind of area this sits back in. It’s located in the ‘hipster’ area just outside of town (but across the street from the hotel I stayed at). They serve amazing BURGERS and fries. It is a bit expensive, but I really loved the cool atmosphere.

Traktir Na Parkovoj

We always had a plan A, so we never got to dine at Traktir Na Parkovoj. However, if we had another night, we’d maybe try this traditional place to eat. It is a ‘Russian BBQ’ complete with a crazy looking interior. Check out their TripAdvisor reviews.

Kamyanitsa

This restaurant was very traditional and I loved the kitchy atmosphere. It looked like the inside of a castle, with a lot of stone and candlelight. Where the dinner tables are, it’s almost like you are in an ancient  hall with long tables (for plenty of beer toasts). The waitresses actually showcase traditional dances while you eat, and the basically force you to get up and dance as well. I had a blast. Don’t forget to try the Medovukha (similar to mead).
