Best Months to Travel to the Greek Islands

Location: 2 min read

Greece is known for it’s glittering Aegean sea, amazing eats, sunny weather, and an unbelievable nightlife. It is a place where time is allowed to stop. It is enjoyed by tourists mainly because it is a place to fully relax and enjoy a vacation properly.

With this, there are definitely times to go and when not to go. Greece is basically split between 6 parts.

  • Mainland Greece
  • Ionian Islands
  • Aegean Islands
  • Dodecanese Islands
  • Cyclade Islands
  • Cretan Islands

We will speak about the Cyclade Islands, which are some of the most popular.

The Seasons

Get your trip organized by deciding what you are looking for. Beaches? Nightlife? Romance? Greece has it all! Touristic seasons are broken into 3 parts: Low, Buffer, High.

Low: Airfare, hotel and excursion prices are lower. But so it the temperature (too cold to sit on the beach), and basically all shopping, restaurants, and nightlife has closed shop for the winter. Not much to do but enjoy the calmness of the island.

Buffer: This is in between the low season and high season. Think of it when summer is just getting started, or fall is closing in for most parts of the world. You will see ‘normal’ prices on airfare, hotels, and excursions. Temperature is around 77F (25C), and nightlife is alive and kicking!

High: Ever played a game of ‘Where’s Waldo’? That’s how you might feel on a Greek Island in high season. There are a lot of people, and not enough space for your beach towel. Airfare is at it’s peak, and hotels are most likely sold out. The weather can reach about 95F (35C), and there might not be a breeze for miles. A dip in the Aegean will be necessary! This is also when nightlife is the most fun and some of Greece’s biggest beach parties take place!
