Permanent in Sweden!

2 min read
I finally received my permanent residence and work visa!

This simply means I have the right to live and work in Sweden as long as my conditions do not change (as in…break up with my Swedish boyfriend).

After living in the country for another five years, I am able to receive my citizenship and a passport. Yes, I will have a duel passport so I can come and go from Europe as I please!
For those of you wondering, renewing the visa was a fairly easy process. In fact, it was approved in 14 hours. The following forms are what I filled out:
  1. Applicant for resident permit to settle in Sweden: No. 161011 (Had to fill this one out when applying for the first visa too, but this time you check the extension box).
  2. My boyfriend’s assurance of cohabitation: No. 243011B
  3. Personbevis: This is basically your proof of how long you have been living in Sweden. Get this at the tax office. (actually, I did not have to submit that, but I got one anyway because it says so on the website…but when you apply, they do not ask for it)
  4. Copy of my passport showing personal data
  5. Copy of my boyfriend’s passport/valid ID showing personal data
  6. And you must pay money before you extend your visa. It costs around 1700kr ($264 USD) and you pay to the Migration board’s bank giro account: http://www.migrationsverket.se/info/811_en.html

I was able to do this all online because I am living inside Sweden. I basically just photocopied the passports and the forms you fill out online. You can only apply 30 days before your initial sambo visa expires.

Hey Sangduean, I’m not sure what you mean? I never had to leave my boyfriend because we were living together in another European country when we applied for the sambo visa for Sweden. Altogether, in 2011, it took me 5 months of waiting to get a visa approval. That was 8 years ago, and now I believe the waiting time is 9-14 months depending on how long your partner has lived in Sweden and their type of visa or citizenship.

Yay, congratulations! My current UppehÃ¥llstillstÃ¥nd is for 2 years and after that, we'll renew… after 5 years, definitely to go for Swedish citizenship. We love it here and the idea of having a Swedish / EU passport has been something I've always dreamed of! Nice to find another like me!
